Freaks and Geeks "A love note to a love letter."

So today I wanted to share something feel good that will always, always get me fired up about skateboarding, the people in and around it and my closest friends.

Now I know what some of you are thinking, "Legacy? Sharing a Vans video, whaaa?!" Well yes although I can't offer you any links to enjoy some Vans products with this blog post I can offer you an idea, and that idea is that the people in skateboarding are what make it what it is!

I never really was popular in school or ever for that matter, I didn't fit into normal sports or activities with the "cool" kids in-fact i spend 10 years of my childhood doing karate which got its fair share of piss taken out of it. I was always more on the outcast side being interested in less popular subjects like Art over sports and TV, games, movies and comic books over pining after girls or wondering where the next piss up down the dene was going to be.

However when I found skateboarding none of it seemed to matter anymore either way, and a big part of that was the attitude that people carry, who are real skateboarders, now I'm not talking about Tom, Dick or Harry from down the road who bought that Route One set up claiming he was "nearly sponsored" when he was younger and can kickflip any stair set you see but has nothing better to do but talk shit on skateboarding and other people.

No I mean the real ones, who don't give a shit what you think or what you're doing or for that fact most of the time they don't care what they're doing, they're just out to have some fun! These are the ones who still get stoked to see a kid land his first flip trick or 5050 without belittling them because they've forgotten that in-fact we all start the same with skateboarding and they will have suffered the same struggles as the young guns now are. And guess what too kids, they're probly having more fun than you anyway.

These are my people, and you know what? those dudes/dudettes I wouldn't swap for all the money in the world right now.
They scream, they shout, I've seen people break out into song for passer-byes on a rainy day just because we had to hide under a bridge next to the park, they smash up, they're gonna try mental tricks I would only dream of landing, and I am going to 100% be jealous and also stoked all at once, they might even start the occasional fire and that is why I love them, because they are who they are. Doesn't mean I always want to join in, but Ill sit at the sidelines to watch it go down any day of the week! And on top of that I know that If I'm ever having a problem or feel down, depressed or anxious about something I can go to them to talk.

Those freaks and geeks I just described have been my helpers, they've been my team, my coach, my mentor, my brothers and sisters, they're the best and the worst, they're heroes and villains, and above all they're all mine!

So you know what, in the words of our brother, the late Jeffrey Blaine Grosso "turn it off, get out there" go find your people, they're waiting for you somewhere. There could be your next brother or sister sat doing the same as you wishing they had someone closer so go find them, and don't let the real ones go, they are so important. Also don't be afraid to ask them for help when you need it, we can't go it all alone all the time.

Now get it out have some fun! Rest In Power Jeff Grosso, you helped make me the person I am today watching these videos and I'll never be able to tell you that to your face.

As always if you need help with something here at Legacy even if its just to talk contact us @legacyskatestore via Facebook or Instagram
